Do Not Show Them Everything at Once

As with handouts, do not show transparencies until you are
ready. Isolate the parts of each one you wish to talk about and
show it one line at a time. If you cover the transparency with
a regular piece of paper, and turn on the projector, you can
easily read through it to see the words as you stand near the
projector. Meanwhile, the audience sees only what is not
covered by the paper. You can start to talk about the ideas on
the overhead before you reveal it and move smoothly from
point to point.
